Hazelnut traceability: Why lot information matters

Connecting products, lots and documents helps buyers interpret analysis results, storage records and deliveries without assuming every certificate covers every lot.

EZMINO · · Updated:

Traceability is the ability to follow product movements through records. For a hazelnut buyer, a useful starting question is whether the document in hand can be connected to the product delivered. FAO considers traceability within food-control and recall systems. (FAO)

Start with the lot reference

Products with the same name may have been processed or stored at different times. A lot reference helps connect a product with analysis, shipment and acceptance records. A report describing hazelnuts does not establish that every hazelnut delivery is covered by that report.

Check the scope of analysis

Review the sample or lot description, date, tested parameters and result. Where necessary, ask how the sample was taken and which lot it represents. Results should not be extended to unrelated lots or future shipments without an explained basis.

Connect storage and shipment records

Intake, dispatch, storage periods and lot movements support commercial tracking. EZMINO's licensed-storage approach for in-shell hazelnuts is relevant in that context. Recorded storage does not mean that all lots have identical testing coverage or that risk has been eliminated.

A buyer's check

  • Match lot information on packaging and shipment records.
  • Confirm the scope of specifications and analysis reports.
  • Retain sample approval alongside the product definition.
  • Segregate discrepancies identified at receipt and contact the supplier.

Traceability is not a quality guarantee by itself; it supports an organised product assessment. Read about our supply and storage approach and explain your documentation expectations in your enquiry.
